Echinocactus Grusonil

Description

• PLANT DETAILS: 
•  Echinocactus Grusonii has usually a single slowly growing globe-shaped stem that became elongated (barrel-shaped) in maturity, up to 90 cm (180 cm) in height and spread.
• Echinocactus grusonii is commonly known as the Golden Barrel Cactus. The Golden Barrel Cactus is native to Mexico, specifically in the states of Queretaro, Hidalgo, and San Luis Potosi.
• Echinocactus grusonii is a beautiful and low-maintenance plant that can add a touch of desert-style to any home. With proper care, it can grow into a stunning specimen that can live for decades.

1. Stem: Pale green and heavily ribbed.
   Ribs: With very numerous areoles.
   Radial spines: Yellow spines.
   Flowers: Flower are diurnal, vivid yellow (4-5 cm wide) and form a circular ring at the top of the plant, but are not very visible being small in relation with the size of the barrel, and lost into the creamy coloured wool at the plant apex.
   Blooming season: The flowers are produced from end of spring to summer only on larger mature specimens receiving enough full sun.
   Remarks: Like the other Echinocactus and Ferocactus seedlings, the rib structure is not yet apparent, and they have pronounced tubercles making them look superficially like Mammillarias.

PLANT CARE TIPS:

•  Echinocactus Grusonii requires plenty of bright, direct sunlight to thrive. Place the cactus near a south-facing window or in a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. However, be careful not to expose it to extreme heat or direct sun during the hottest part of the day.
• Golden Barrel Cactus prefers a dry and warm climate, with daytime temperatures between 18°C to 27°C and nighttime temperatures between 10°C to 15°C. Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 4°C or frost, which can damage or kill the cactus. The plant does not require high humidity levels and can tolerate low humidity.
• Echinocactus Grusonii does not require frequent fertilisation. Fertilise the plant once a month during the growing season with a cactus-specific fertiliser at half strength. Do not fertilise during the dormant season.
• Golden Barrel Cactus can be propagated through seeds or offsets. Allow the offsets to dry out for a day or two before planting in a well-draining soil mix.
• Golden Barrel Cactus is generally pest and disease-free, but it can be susceptible to mealybugs, spider mites, and scale insects. Regularly inspect the plant for signs of pests and treat them immediately using insecticidal soap or neem oil.

SOIL TYPE & WATERING: –

•  The plant grows best in the regular cactus soil mix like other cacti and succulents. The soil media most be well drained, which helps keep the roots from rotting.
• Always check your media before watering, for succulents and cactus allow the potting mix to dry completely before watering again.
